Summer Schools
In June 2007 PeaceMaker led a two week summer school for children from primary schools in the Oldham borough. Using the mediums of dance, drama, art and music PeaceMaker provided the opportunity for young people from different backgrounds in years five and six to come together and learn about different cultures and religions in a fun and relaxed environment.
A percentage of the young people who attended the summer school had been a part of the school workshops Tell It Like it Is and World Through My window. By holding this two week programme out of term time PeaceMaker was able to emphasise its ethos and provide continuity of its work to many children in the local area.
The staff and children enjoyed two weeks of fun and learning, taking part in many vibrant and diverse activities. The group played African drums, sang traditional songs from Ghana, painted Chinese lanterns, made European shadow puppets, did Henna hand painting and many more activities. The accumulation of this work resulted in an energetic and colourful performance at the end of the programme. This performance attracted an audience of sixty parents, friends and teachers from the local community.
